OUR ZINE PROJECTS
Transngeder Day Of Visability Zine
For Transgender Day of Visibility 2020, the Queer Society in collaboration with the Flinders University Queer Collective commissioned many Queer and Trans artists for their art in a week-long social media showcase. Our goal was to fund as many artists as we could, while gathering a full and diverse collection of artwork that represents how diverse and wonderful the Transgender community really is.
We also ran an art competition for Transfolk and Trans Allies to participate in so members of our community could showcase their artwork as well. in this zine is a full printed collection of everything we commissioned as well as our two competition winners - Liz Waldron for the Written Category, and Aiden James for the Visual category.
New Beginings Zine
2024 theme was “New Beginnings”. A New Beginning could have been a new house, a new name, a new style of music, or in regards to us at The Queer Society, a new team! New Beginnings are always important as they allow us to experiment with our self-expression and identity.
Through the Zine Art Competition, we hope to support talented young South Australians and bring their creations and skills into the public limelight. This Zine showcases the amazing art of our 2 winners and 9 runners-up!
Living Proud
Mt Gambier
This Zine is a collaboration piece between The Queer Society and The Equality Project focusing on the stories, the art, and the services of the Mt Gambier area, for the Mt Gambier area! This zine is the first of hopefully a collection of zines created by us here at The Queer Society adjacently with The Equality Projects Festival for the Future (see further information below), focusing on a different region each time!
The Festival for the Future brings service providers to the regions, creating connections to these services for LGBTIQA+ people as they age, and building capacity within this community by building knowledge through facilitated sessions, and space for one-on-one conversation with these services.
